This document provides details of some companies that fit and sell specialised footwear in Ireland. It may be helpful for people with diabetes or arthritis or people who have swollen, sensitive or odd-sized feet.
Children under 18 years of age with a medical card or on the long-term illness scheme may be entitled to two pairs of orthopaedic boots or shoes free of charge each year. People over 18 years of age qualify for one pair of orthopaedic boots or shoes annually under these schemes. These boots or shoes are supplied on prescription from your orthopaedic surgeon. Orthopaedic footwear is also available for private purchase.
