You can claim relief for certain food products if you have specific dietary requirements due to a medical condition.
This applies to you if you are:
- a coeliac and you must purchase gluten free foods specifically manufactured to be gluten free
- diabetic and you must purchase diabetic products if your doctor recommends that you include these in your diet.
If you have special dietary needs, you must provide a letter from your doctor stating this.
You must keep receipts for the gluten free food or diabetic products you claim relief on. These receipts can be from supermarkets, health stores and other similar shops.
Receipts can be stored on the Revenue Receipt Tracker app (RRTA). Please see page ‘How do you claim health expenses?’ for more information.
