Judo Assist Ireland is a non-profit, non-political organisation dedicated to the promotion and development of inclusive judo both nationally and internationally. We operate a national / international Special Needs / Autism activity and inclusion programme specifically designed to encourage physical activity, inclusion, competitiveness and well being to a wide selection of people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. We work with a large number of inclusion groups & organisations, schools, autism units and individuals across the length and breadth of Ireland and beyond.
Judo is one of the most participated sports in the world and is also one of the most adaptable.
Judo is suitable for people of all abilities and disabilities including but not limited to, Learning & Intellectual disabilities, Social disabilities (Autism, ADHD etc.) Sensory impairments (hearing & visual), Physical & motorial disabilities, Down syndrome and much more………
There are no kicks, punches or striking of any kind and the element of respect is paramount.
There are two strands to our programme, (1) Fully Inclusive (2) Specialised Special Needs/Autism classes. The fully inclusive classes are available in a large number of progressive judo clubs around the country, whereas although growing, specialised SN/Autism classes are only available in Tipperary, Galway, Offaly, Wexford and Belfast. Plans are currently underway to open a number of new specialiased classes throughout the country.
Our positive approach to adaptive coaching is paramount to the continued success of our programme, to this end we have developed and delivered a large number comprehensive adaptive coaching courses to all provinces of Ireland and many countries across Europe. Our coaching techniques and skills are modified and developed with a clear focus on individual ability and the physical, social and emotional benefits to all who take part. The aim is to concentrate on what the student can do and not on what they can’t.
All our judo Assist classes are taught using variety of play techniques which promotes ease of learning and of course is great fun for all involved.
